Peter Ryan
Senior Research Fellow
Prof. Peter Y. A. Ryan is Emeritus Professor at the University of Luxembourg and one of Europe’s leading scholars in cybersecurity, cryptography, and the governance of digital systems. His research has focused particularly on secure electronic voting, privacy-enhancing technologies, distributed systems, and the societal implications of digital security and (mass) surveillance. Over the course of his academic career, he has contributed to both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of cryptographic security, while also engaging actively with questions of democratic resilience and institutional trust in the digital age.
Prof. Ryan has collaborated extensively with academic, governmental, and industry partners across Europe and beyond, and his work has helped shape debates on election integrity, secure digital infrastructures, and the future of democratic governance in technologically complex societies. At ESILUX, he contributes expertise at the intersection of technology, security, and public institutions.
Prof. Ryan received his PhD in Mathematical Physics from the University of London in 1982.
